Description:
|
Santa Maria Antiqua became a "diakonia", a place where material aid and spiritual assistance was given. It also became the focus for a "healing" ministry with the Chapel to the left of the Presbytery that was dedicated to the Medical Saints primarily focused on Saints Cyrus and John. There is also evidence of some form of ministry to women and those experiencing fertility problems with the area outside the Chapel of the Physicians having images of the Three Holy Mothers; St. Anna (Anne) and the Theotokos (Virgin Mary), the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) and the Christ Child and St. Elizabeth and St. John the Baptist.
