Description:
This panel comes from the Church of Santa Maria del Sepolcro for which it was commissioned in 1461 by Agnolo Vettori, who was gonfalonier of the Republic of Florence in 1458. Neri di Bicci was heir to his grandfather's (Lorenzo di Bicci) and father's (Bicci di Lorenzo) studio. Notable in this Annunciation is the small depiction of the Crucifixion, flanked by angels at the bottom. The complex architecture creates a deep perspective out to the landscape. The panel was recently restored. (Source: Galleria dell'Accademia (Florence) [website]; http://www.accademia .org/)
