Description:
|
Martin Weinberger ascribes this grouping to school of Nicola Pisano. He points out that the figure to the left, traditionally called Saint Reparata, does not match the other figures in height and is more probably a figure of the virtue Charity, not in the originally grouping. She holds a vase with flames, one of the attributes of Charity. The originals are displayed at ground level, with copies showing their correct placement above on the full scale replica of the facade in the new wing of the museum. (Source: Weinberger, Martin; The First Façade of the Cathedral of Florence, Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, Vol. 4, no. 1/2, 1940)
