Description:
|
Part of a series which began with wood, which was then cast. This 2010 version was cast in an edition of 3 (all the works have the same title, simply a different date). Nash is known around the world not least for his characteristic wood sculptures with partly or entirely charred surfaces. This black patinated bronze was cast from a wood model which was charred by a controlled flame, to give it a "new visual quality". Even from close up, their surface structure and color makes them seem as if they are made from charred wood; one has to touch them and knock on them to realize they are made of metal.
