Description:
In 1916, the 22-year-old Rockwell painted his first cover for The Saturday Evening Post, the magazine considered by Rockwell to be the “greatest show window in America.” Over the next 47 years, another 322 Rockwell covers would appear on the cover of the Post. This painting is unusual in that it includes the painted lettering of the magazine title; usually this was added later in the printing process. Rockwell wanted to control the overlap of the figure with the title. (Source: Norman Rockwell Museum [website]; https://www.nrm.org/ )
