Description:
From the collection of Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Québec, Canada. During the 1950s, Riopelle developed his well-known, mature style of creating large, color "mosaic" paintings executed with a palette knife and by squeezing colors onto the canvas directly from the tube. This is a looser rendition of that style from 1958. (Source: Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec [website]; www.mnbaq.org/)
