Description:
|
From Collection Cirque du Soleil, Montréal, Canada. Riopelle was French-Canadian. He studied under Paul-Émile Borduas in the 1940s and was a member of Les Automatistes movement. During the 1950s, Riopelle developed his well-known, mature style of creating large, color "mosaic" paintings executed with a palette knife and by squeezing colors onto the canvas directly from the tube.
