Now in a private collection, previously purchased by Picasso in Marseille in 1912, on a trip with Georges Braque. Both the wood and the vegetable fibers of the dance mask have been blackened. The Kru or Kroo are a West African ethnic group who originated in eastern Liberia and migrated and settled along various points of the West African coast.
