Description:
|
The Kru or Kroo are a West African ethnic group who originated in eastern Liberia and migrated and settled along various points of the West African coast, notably Freetown, Sierra Leone, but also the Ivorian and Nigerian coasts. Mask consisting of a high, flat face in which the nasal ridge, the mouth and two rows of six cylindrical eyes on either side of the nose project in relief. Both the wood and the fibers have been blackened. This is a dance mask. (Source: Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac [website]; http://www.quaibranl y.fr/en/)
