Description:
|
The Sakalava are an ethnic group of Madagascar. They are found on the western and northwest region of the island, in a band along the coast. "Tromba" has been a historic feature of the Sakalava people, and has centered around ceremonies and processions for the spirits of their deceased royalty. This statue is the upper part of a funeral pole. (Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Main_Page)
