REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON THE BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Batik tulis or hand-drawn batik. A "kain" is a length of cloth worn in Indonesia as a wrap-around skirt; once worn in Java by both sexes, in more recent times, primarily a woman's garment. Indigo dyed. Collected during the decade prior to World War II. X61.16 through X61.19 are similar in style, motif and color.
