Per the donor: " The Headcloth (Kain Batik) is Penghulu Datuk, the leader of a clan in Minangkabau. The Headcloth has arabic writing (caligraphy) at the center, and there are compartments which indicate some of the god's manners. At the center of the piece there are motives of swords. The Headcloth is no longer produced in Bukittinggi. The vernacular name of the Headcloth in Minangkabau is Saluak. It is usually used by a man. The Headcloth is approximately 100 years old."
