REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Batik "kain" only half completed, intended as a demonstration of the batik method. The cloth has been waxed and dyed in indigo, then re-waxed in preparation for the second color dye (presumably to be brown). The wax remains on the cloth. Central Java style batik.
