Notes:
President Roosevelt at his desk. What a busy desk this is. While the study of President Roosevelt is in the White House, the business office of the President of the United States is in the Executive Office Building at the west of the White House. The west terrace connects the White House with the Executive Offices. President Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, on the family estate of Krum Elbow on the Hudson at Hyde Park, New York. He attended Groton School and graduated from Harvard in 1904. He graduated from the Columbia Law School in 1907, after which he was admitted to the bar. His hobbies are swimming, sailing, the collection of ship models, ship prints, and postage stamps. The first experience President Roosevelt had in politics was in 1910 when he received the Democratic nomination of State Senator. He was elected by a good majority and was re-elected in 1912. He served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy under President Wilson, the World War demanding from him the hardest, most intensive work. A the Democratic National Convention in 1920 he received the nomination for Vice-P resident but lost in the defeat suffered by his party. He was elected Governor of New York State in 1928 and re-elected in 1930. In 1932, the Democratic party won the Presidential Election and on march 4, 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated as the thirty-second President of the United States. This occurred during a time of unprecedented economic and social distress. At the age of fifty-one, President Roosevelt reached the climax of his career, occupying what is today one of the most difficult positions in the world and one that will challenge the best that is in him.
