Notes:
REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Woman's "selendang" or shoulder scarf. Resist dyed silk. Both the "plangi" (tie dye) and the "tritik" (stitch dye) techniques have been used. Fringe added separately to hemmed cloth. This "selendang" is assigned to Lampung on the basis of the original accession material. It is not particularly a style characteristic of Lampung nor are Lampung examples of this type of "selendang" illustrated in the literature. Illustrated "selendang" using the "plangi" and "tritik" techniques are from the Palembang region rather than Lampung [Gittinger 1979:107; Kahn Majlis 1984:199]. Probably an item of fancy dress but not of specific ritual function [see Gittinger 1979:107].
